WWE releases long-time WWE announcer Tony Chimel

WWE has released long-time announcer and backstage employee, Tony Chimel.

Chimel has been with WWE for close to 30 years. Starting in 1991, Chimel was originally hired to help out backstage and eventually became the voice of Smackdown.

Chimel is probably most known for his introduction of WWE Hall of Famer Edge. WWE also let go of their Director of Merchandise and Remote Operations, Derek Casselman who has been with the company for close to 3 decades as well.

WWE announces the lay-offs as they announce a 19% growth in revenue of $221.6 million.

“Our third quarter financial performance was strong and reflected our ongoing creativity in a challenging environment,” said Vince McMahon, WWE Chairman & CEO. “We continue to adapt our business, as demonstrated by the creation of WWE ThunderDome, focusing on increasing audience interaction and engagement to support the value of our content globally.”
