The Best Candy For Easter: Top 5

When I was a kid, we’d have Easter dinner at my grandparent’s house every year.  My brother and I were the youngest of 5 grandkids and every year we’d all get the same thing for Easter from my grandma; one Reese’s peanut butter egg.  Just one.  That’s it.  We didn’t realize that most kids got showered with lavish baskets chock full of pretty pastel candy, toys and foil wrapped chocolate bunnies from family members and/or the Easter Bunny.  My parents made up for what my grandma was lacking, but even then we received a fairly modest Easter basket.  It was all we knew, so we appreciated it and never complained. Hey, at least my grandma chose one of the best Easter candies, it doesn’t get much better than a Reese’s peanut butter egg!  So when it comes to Easter candy, what do most kids hope to find in their baskets?  Here’s a list of the Top 5, see if your favorite makes the list!

5.) Peeps.  I know, I know, most people hate Peeps, but you can’t argue the fact that they are the quintessential Easter candy, even if they are just brightly colored sugary marshmallows in the shapes of bunnies and chicks.  I’ll admit, I used to love Peeps.  I don’t know why, I can’t explain it, but I thought they were great.  However, I had one yesterday and I don’t know what happened, but wow they are not good!  Sure the squishy texture is kind of fun to eat, but holy sugar!  I couldn’t bring myself to even eat a whole one, it was way too sweet.  So love em or hate em, Peeps are here to stay for Easter and pretty much every other holiday as well.  By the way, if you do find Peeps in your Easter basket and aren’t a fan of them, try putting them in the microwave and watch them explode!  Fun for all ages!

4.) “Gummy treats”.  It’s odd that of all of the Easter candies to choose from a generic ‘gummy treat’ sneaks into the number 4 spot.  Perhaps if they are egg or bunny shaped they can get a pass…or if by ‘gummy treat’ they mean ‘Sour Patch Kids’, because those are always welcome in my Easter basket!

3.) Pastel M&M’s.  Ok, so they are exactly the same as regular M&M’s, buuuuuut they are pastel, cause it’s spring and Easter and they have festive shells.  I’d say those are all good enough reasons to include them as part of everybody’s Easter winnings.

2.) Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs.  Yes!  My grandma knew what was up!  These things are amazing, if you don’t include a Reese’s PB egg in your baskets, you’re doing Easter wrong (unless of course you’re dealing with someone who has a peanut allergy, no one wants an EpiPen in their Easter basket).

1.) Solid chocolate bunnies.  How disappointing is it when you take your first bite of that bunny ear and are met with a mouthful of disappointment when you learn the bunny is HOLLOW.  The worst!  Solid chocolate bunnies for the win!

Happy Easter!
