One of the biggest stars in Hollywood, Morgan Freeman, has become the latest celebrity accused of inappropriate behavior and/or sexual harassment. According to CNN, eight women have come forward stating 80-year-old Freeman was inappropriate towards them on a movie set, during an interview or at his production company, Revelations Entertainment.
The allegations have already started to hit Freeman where it hurts, in the wallet; his long term ad campaign deal with VISA has come to an abrupt halt. VISA released this statement according to Deadline: “We are aware of the allegations that have been made against Mr. Freeman. At this point, Visa will be suspending our marketing in which the actor is featured.”
Now according to TMZ, the Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) is considering taking “corrective action” in regards to the Lifetime Achievement Award Freeman received in January of this year. The actor’s union did acknowledge that Mr. Freeman has the right to due process, and was quoted by TMZ saying, “it’s our starting point to believe the courageous voices who come forward to report incidents of harassment.”
Morgan Freeman has had a remarkably successful acting career over the past 47 years, and has won numerous awards for his work. According to CNN, Freeman released this statement amidst the allegations, “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent.”
