Swedish DJ Avicii, whose real name is Tim Bergling, has died at the age of 28.
His publicist Diana Baron released this statement to TMZ:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” the statement reads. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
Avicii retired from performing live in 2016 at the age of 26, citing his health as the reason. Avicii had been hospitalized twice in the past for alcohol related issues and had problems with addiction. It’s not clear what contributed to his death.
The popular DJ was recently nominated for a Billboard Music Award for ‘Top Dance/Electronic Album’ as well as being nominated for Grammy’s in 2011 and 2012. He has collaborated with a number of artists in many genres and is probably best known for his smash hit ‘Wake Me Up’ with Aloe Blacc.
