American Idol holds strong ratings in week two

American Idol returned to ABC last week and saw 8.1 million viewers. For week two, Idol was able to hold a strong rating.

The second episode of Idol’s audition saw 7.46 million viewers. ABC should be extremely happy with the ratings Idol is getting for them this season. It should be interesting to see what The Voice gets with Nick Jonas making his debut on the NBC show tonight.

The trio of Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry has been a big win for the singing competition. This group seems to be having a really fun time on show.

Laine Hardy’s Top 5 ‘American Idol’ Performances

Hearing Ryan Seacrest say…”The new…American Idol…..LAINE HARDY” was the finale of the show we needed. To celebrate Laine’s victory, here are 5 of my personal favorites from this season.

Number 5 – ‘Jackson’ with Laci Kaye Booth

It was at this point in time where I thought to myself, Laine has a real chance at winning this. At one point, I had thought that it might come down to these two. I am glad it didn’t. I felt like this was Laine’s real turning point.

Number 4 – Something About The Way You Look Tonight

During this performance, Laine really showcased his vocal skills. He spent time with a voice coach.

Maddie Poppe Saw The Results Card Before Ryan Seacrest Announced The American Idol Winner

Maddie Poppe appeared on Live! With Kelly and Ryan to talk about winning the 16th season of American Idol. In the interview, Poppe made a revelation.

Poppe turned to Seacrest and said “You’re really bad at hiding the results card!” in which Seacrest jumped up and shouted “WHAT!?”.

According to Poppe, Seacrest held the card very low and Poppe and Caleb Lee Hutchinson (2nd Place) both saw the card. Check out the interview above.

Ruben Jay’s Official American Idol 2018 Prediction….

With American Idol‘s 16th season coming to an end tonight, I think it’s time for me to make my official prediction who is going to win. So here is my official prediction:

3rd Place: Gabby Barrett. I loved Gabby up until last night. I think she was the front-runner to win the show. At one point I wrote that Gabby Barrett was the reincarnation of Carrie Underwood, which would have been a great thing for Idol. However, her this week’s performances have thrown her into the bottom of the top 3. I still think she has a great chance to make some really big moves in music.

2nd Place: Caleb Lee Hutchinson. Caleb has become a dark horse for a while and I was really surprised to see him in the finale. His performances last night were just slightly better than Gabby. One note that I have for him would be to get a stool and sit while performing.

And you’re new American Idol…Madde Poppe. I’ve been a huge fan of Maddie’s since day one. I thought she was a “slow burn” of a contestant where she didn’t show too much but also grew week-to-week. I truly believe that she is going to be crowned champion tonight.

The journey continues as America’s beloved singing competition series “American Idol” is set to return for its second season on The ABC Television Network for the 2018-2019 season. Following the historic revival of the beloved series on ABC, the fan favorite will set out once again on a nationwide search to discover the next singing sensation. Returning to help find the cream of the crop are music industry legends and all-star judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Emmy®-winning producer Ryan Seacrest will also return to helm the music competition series as host.

In its first season on ABC, “American Idol” has finished as Sunday’s No. 1 entertainment broadcast series on each of its 8 telecasts this season in Live + Same Day Adults 18-49. In fact, on average, the series ranks No. 1 in its 2-hour slot with Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34, across all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54) and Teens 12-17. “American Idol” is more than doubling ABC’s Sunday 8:00-10:00 p.m. time-period results year-to-year in Total Viewers (+158%) and Adults 18-49 (+110%), producing the Net’s best results in the 2-hour slot in 4 years among viewers and in 3 years among young adults – since the comparable weeks of 2014 and 2015, respectively. American Idol Recap: The Top 14

American Idol Performance

Ryan Seacrest starts things out with a staple introduction. Seacrest welcomes out the judges of American Idol, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry. Idol has a new stage and it looks really good. Seacrest then explains the rules. The top 14 perform, America chooses 6, and the judges pick 4 for the top 10.

Caleb Lee Hutchinson

Caleb came on the stage with a banjo and had a spark of confidence singing “Midnight Train to Memphis”. It was a good performance, but not great.

Katy Perry started out the critic. She stated that she can’t believe that he’s here but believes in him. Luke Bryan comments on Caleb’s growth as a performer. Criticized his song choice. Lionel Richie jokes that the girls screaming distracted Caleb. Richie asked for more of Caleb.

Michelle Sussett

Michelle is singing “F.R.I.E.N.D.S.” by Marshmello. Terrible. I don’t see what people see in her other than she is a good looking girl. She can put on a show but her voice is terrible. She’s all over the stage, which is a good thing.

Towards the end of the song, she did hit a very high note and it sounded good. I think she needs a lot more training on her voice.

Luke says that Michelle became a pop star. I disagree. Lionel says that she owned the performance, which she did. Katy Perry told her that she didn’t think this was a bad song choice for her to use to display her talents. Michelle said that she chose the song because she had a friend fall in love with her, and she only wanted to be friends.

Marcio Donaldson

Marcio is doing “It’s A Miracle” by Barry Manilow. His levels weren’t mixed very well. However, he sounded in credible. I think that Marcio could be Idol’s break out star. He has an incredible stage presence.

Lionel called him “old school”, but in a good way. Side note: Someone tell Lionel that he doesn’t need to stand every time he talks. Katy Perry said that Marcio has arrived. Perry said that the contestants need to just sing.

Luke Bryan said that he wasn’t sold on the song. Seacrest asked him what he wanted to do and he said he wanted to entertain. I like this guy.

Mara Justine

Mara takes the stage with “This Is Me” from the Greatest Showman. This girl is fierce. She chose a song that allows her to showcase her vocal rang and also showcase her showmanship. She also made a bold statement saying that this was who she is supposed to be.

Katy Perry complimented that she has come a long way as a performer. Perry said that she didn’t nail it vocally until the middle of the song. Mara is in tears at this point. Luke Bryan says that she needs to deliver her vocals. Lionel Richie said that she’s rising above her trials.

I truly think that Mara could win this entire contest. She needs to do a better job at picking more relevant songs.

Garrett Jacobs

Garrett is channeling his American Idol victory by performing a Phillip Phillips song, “Raging Fire”. It was an okay performance. It’s the typical WGWG (White Guy With Guitar) from Idol.

Luke Bryan said he looked comfortable. Lionel Richie says that he went in and out of consciousness. Katy Perry agrees with Luke Bryan.Katy Perry is too worried about the rest of the people.

Seacrest asks Lionel Richie if he talks to himself while he performs.

Ada Vox

Ada is performing “The Show Must Go On” By Queen. She his a bit pitchy, but is bringing a very passionate performance. Not a fan of her singing but she is putting on a show.

Lionel Richie said that what he loves the most about Ada came to stop the show. Katy Perry said that she started the show while also stopping the show. Luke Bryan said that Ada has the biggest voice he’s ever heard.

Catie Turner

Catie is taking a chance, in my opinion with “Take Me To Church” by Hozier. Catie looks great from the Idol glam team. And she sounds great. She’s showing off her showmanship as well. This is a winners performance.

Catie got a standing ovation form all three judges. Katy Perry said that she wants to sing with Catie. Luke Bryan reminded her not to read the stuff online. He also said that she can win the whole show. Lionel Richie says that he agrees with Luke and that he likes how authentic she is.

I really enjoyed her performance.

Cade Foehner

Cade is breaking out with some Santanna and “Black Magic Woman”. Cade can put on a show, but he isn’t American Idol winning material.

Luke Bryan said his wife loves Cade but really liked his performance. Lionel Richie says that Cade has “the package”. Katie Perry says that her mom loves Cade and asks for a piece of his hair. Seacrest brought out kale from a fan and says that some get fan mail, he gets fan kale.

Dennis Loranzo

Dennis is picking a very contemporary song with “In My Blood” by Shawn Mendes. The downside of picking a song from someone who is a great singer is that you have a lot to live up to. He was very pitchy (shoutout to Randy Jackson), but there is definitely something there.

Lionel Richie says that Dennis broke through the ceiling and was introduced to his new self. Katy Perry thought it was a shaky performance in the beginning and compared him to Chris Cornell. Luke Bryan complimented him on being able to break barriers.

Maddie Poppe

Maddie takes on Simon & Garfunkel with “Homeward Bound”. It was a slow performance but really highlighted her voice and gave her the chance to play guitar on it. I really like Maddie, I think she has the ability to ousting and perform everyone if she continues to choose her own songs.

Katy Perry compares Maddie to Joan Mitchell. Luke Bryan said that he hopes the people felt that performance and really enjoyed her vocal. Lionel Richie said that she has a career ahead of her.

What I like about Maddie is that she isn’t fazed by the lights and stars.

Jurnee

Jurnee picks “Bang Bang” by Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj. Jurnee has some serious talent that she needs to channel. She picked a contemporary song that showcased her performance. She nailed the Nicki rap. She has superstar in her.

Luke Bryan thanked her for showing another side of her performance. He said that she brought it. Lionel Richie says “Oh yeah!”. Katy Perry called her an artist.

Johnny Brenns

Johnny does “This Is Gospel” by PANIC! At the Disco. A very underwhelming performance. He has a decent voice, but the bad song choice and lack of a performance really hurt me.

Lionel Richie says he loves to hear him sing. Seriously, someone tell Lionel to stop standing. Katy Perry thought it was a fun performance. Luke Bryan talks about how Johnny is transitioning into a new singer.

Michael J. Woodard

Michael chose “Titanium” by Sia. Good choice, good performance from Michael. Not sure where he wants to end up as an artist.

Katy Perry said that she is hanging out with Sia and is going to tell her that she met a star. Luke Bryan says that he thinks America is going to love him. Lionel Richie says that he a martian and he took his performance to another level. He also called Michael a star.

Gabby Barrett

Gabby is taking on Miley Cyrus with “The Climb”. A simple performance from Gabby, but she showcased her vocals extremely well. Less is more. She got the second standing ovation from the judges.

Luke Bryan has two notes for her. He said that this performance was his favorite of the night. Luke also said that he feels that Gabby isn’t playing around anymore. Katy Perry said that Gabby went through the star wash and that she looked and sounded like a star. Lionel Richie said that her performance was something magical.

Top 6 American Idol Auditions: Premiere Week

Keep calm. Be strong. American Idol is back for its 16th season and first season on ABC. While the show has had its fair share of criticism this week, many of us are excited to have the show back! We wanted to break down our 6 favorite auditions so far!

#6 – Catie Turner with 21st Century Machine

Catie’s attitude is one that many of us have: Someone chasing a dream and just happy to be here. She performed an original song that resonated with everyone watching. She did great and we believe that she will do well in this competition.

#5 – Alyssa Raghu with “Almost Is Almost Never Enough”

Alyssa, 15 years old, and incredible. She has an “It” factor and can do really well in this business if guided correctly.

Katy Perry: Just Having Fun Or Crossing The Line On Idol?

The American Idol re-boot made it’s debut last Sunday night.  It’s got a new network, ABC, and new coaches, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Katy Perry.  I admittedly wasn’t too interested in watching the re-boot because I kind of felt it’d already ‘been there, done that’ and Idol’s run had come to an end.  However, I ended up watching when it was on in the radio studio when I was at work that night.  I was pleasantly surprised!  I loved the contestants stories and talent, and I loved Lionel Richie!  I’m a fan of Luke Bryan’s already, so it was cool to see him representing the country genre on the show, and I guess you could call me ‘indifferent’ about Katy Perry.  I appreciate her talent, I like a few of her songs, but she’s not really my cup of coffee (I know, it’s tea, but I don’t like tea, so coffee it is).

I thought her coaching was fine out of the gate, she’s obviously qualified for the job, being a successful musician in the music business.  However, it was when she started getting creepy with the male contestants that I started to get uncomfortable.  First, was 19-year-old Benjamin Glaze from Oklahoma, who for some reason admitted as part of his story that he’d never had a girlfriend and never been kissed.  At which point, Perry summoned him over for a kiss on the cheek, which then turned into a surprise kiss on the lips!  Red faced and obviously embarrassed, Glaze started to back away, while the panel shared a laugh, that he eventually joined in on.
