Here we have yet another American comedy about a nerdy boy dating a really hot girl. If you don’t like this type of movie then there’s no point watching this.
The movie is all about Kirk (Jay Baruchel), a young man who is pinning for his ex-girlfriend. While at work he meets sexy businesswoman Molly (Alice Eve). Miraculously she seems to like him and they begin to date. But with the constant mocking form his friends and family, mixed with his low self esteem issues, he is in danger of pushing her away.
This is a very predictable but very enjoyable film. Even though the American comedies all seem to have the same gags and jokes in them, this was slightly refreshing just from the fact it isn’t set in a high school.
Baruchel is perfect to play the normal lovable loser character and he can only be described as cute as he portrays a disbelieving nerd who has a gorgeous girl interested in him.
Alice Eve is hot. She always seems to play the hot girl but hopefully Hollywood will gives the oxford graduate a chance to show what she’s made of. She enters the film as the head turner walking through an airport but isn’t really given much chance to really develop her character.
The laughs come from Kirk’s friends who all feel that they can give the right advice to help Kirk handle dating a girl who is a ‘hard 10’ while he is only a ‘5’. Their little injections of silliness help keep up the pace and give some memorable quotes, ‘No one will do the moodle’.
Kirk’s family and ex-girlfriend continue to bring the laughs due to the dysfunctional relationship but you do find yourself waiting for the moment that causes everything to go wrong and the crazy unrealistic way that the happy ending occurs.
She’s Out of My League is out now.
