Madison Square Garden has been the “mecca” for professional wrestling. WWE build their empire at that venue and for years has called that venue their home. At one time, the WWE had an exclusive lock on the venue for all wrestling promotions.
In recent years, WWE had began to use MSG less and less and eventually began to use the Barclay’s center for more of their New York events. WWE’s biggest show of the year is in New York this year and MSG is getting nothing from the WWE’s stay.
Earlier today, Sinclair Brocasting CEO Chris Ripley announced that they have secured a date for ROH’s MSG debut. Mexico’s AAA Promotion is also scheduled to take on the MSG venue in the near future.
This will be the first time the venue is being used by a wrestling promotion not backed by the McMahon Family.
