That issue of Southern Bastards was a glorious, wonderful thing! It was building wonderfully toward ZIG for the last three issues, giving us a taste of ZIG in issue 4, but then it ended up being ZAG! It was ZAG the whole time! And the crazy thing is NOW I WANNA READ ZAG!! Top work by Jason Aaron, but I’d be foolish not to credit Jason Latour for his visual contributions. The fight scene done as a grid of tiny panels, in present, flashback, and symbolic, was especially a treat. I’m going to slow clap my way all the way to issue #5.
