-OLD MAN LOGAN VS. OLD MAN LOGAN
I made no secret that the Secret Wars/Battleworld version of Old Man Logan bored the heck out of me, as Logan jumped from location to location looking for answers and every issue was its own detached entity. So why is it that the new series follows almost the exact same formula and I love it? I think the isolated encounters happening with characters we know and care about instead of weird one-off versions of them is a big part of it. It also feels more purposeful; he’s not just wandering around flung from place to place. He’s on a mission, and that urgency powers the tone of the story. And it feels like it’s going to end in a satisfying place, something I didn’t feel in the Bendis story.
I would have never guessed that Old Man Logan would be one of my favorite books from the Marvel relaunch, but that’s on me for underestimating Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. I won’t make that mistake again.
