-CHECK OUT THESE MILK WARS
On a whole, I love what Young Animal is doing. Doom Patrol eventually stretched too thin and became too esoteric, but it was a hell of a mind bend when things were hitting their mark. Cave Carson was gorgeous and great but ran in circles in its second half. Shade, the Changing Girl was a great story of teenage acceptance and human patriotism from a foreigner’s perspective. And Mother Panic didn’t hit for me, but three out of four ain’t bad.
When I saw the ad for Milk Wars, I was struck by the imagery of DC’s superhero trinity depicted in such a wholesome and conformist way. I was curious to see how Young Animal’s rebel scum would mix with the mainstream heroes. But more than that, I was hit with an unexpected longing to rejoin these old friends, to give them another shot. I powered past the five dollar price tag and jumped in.
It’s skippable. It’s strange. It’s uneven. But I enjoyed every chapter. By the time it reached its conclusion I found myself moved by its beautiful imagery and themes. I was ready to meet Eternity Girl. I was looking forward to enjoying more Young Animal. That’s a success in my book.
