-DAN DIDIO IS A HORRIBLE WRITER
Perhaps that’s going too far, and perhaps he’s written something good at some point, but I can say definitively that every time I’ve seen his name attached to something it’s been a clunky, awful mess. There have even been times where I’ve disliked a story and looked to see who wrote it, and it was him. I first noticed it when he wrote Metal Men for Wednesday Comics and it stood out like a sore thumb as the least inspired work in the whole project.
This breaks my heart, because the concepts behind Sideways are certainly ones that I want to read. I like the idea of a kid getting superpowers and finding himself way over his head immediately. I picked up issue 1 because I read the preview in the back of another comic and while it was a bit awkward and I didn’t care for the art, I wanted to see what happened next. The joke’s on me then, because the preview was the last few pages of this issue.
I’d have to spend another three dollars on a second issue of a book that I actively disliked reading to see what’s up. I’m not doing that. Goodbye, Sideways. I hope Didio walks away and you mature into a hell of a comic. I’ll see you then.
