-LIVING UP TO THE HYPE

If you had told me four months ago that I would be on the edge of my seat waiting for a relaunch of Uncanny X-Men, I would have told you you were crazy and/or asked for proof that you’re from the future.  But I was that excited, and it didn’t let me down.  This issue was missing the exciting grey-area angst that Evil Cyclops displays in All-New X-Men, and I tend not to enjoy Chris Bachalo’s art as much as the clean lines of Immonen, but other than that it was a fine introductory comic with a thrilling twist to set us off in a whole different direction than I was expecting.

On the other hand, Death of the Family wrapped up in Batman #17 and it couldn’t have fizzled out more.  Scott Snyder’s deft story crafting helped it from being a complete turd, but it was a disappointing end to a story that preached shake-up and change.  Simply put, the ending was a joke and its punchline needed more of a punch.
