…you ready?…

…are you sure?…

…one more chance to turn away…

Okay.  So apparently Peter Parker is dead and Doctor Octopus’s mind is in his body.  Marvel is claiming that this is permanent, and I think from a story perspective that’s the biggest flaw in this concept.  Having Spider-Man secretly be a bad guy is a brilliant move.  It gives the reader an entirely fresh character to read for a year or two while building up an amazing comeback story for Peter.  If Peter doesn’t become Spidey again then we’re stuck with a pompous, unlikeable hero.  This would be fine…it’s potentially a fun ride…if it didn’t leave a hole for anyone wanting to read an actual Spider-Man story.

Now of course Marvel will change everything back to normal eventually (when does the next movie come out?  We’ll see it that year.) and this whole rant is for naught, but if that’s the case then why fight so hard that this isn’t the case?  It’s stupid!  It’s just stupid.  Marvel, you’re in the doghouse.  Prove me wrong.  Make this crap pay off.
