-OOPS ALMOST MISSED A CAN’T-MISS BOOK
I remember when Superior Foes of Spider-Man #1 showed up as part of SUPERIOR SPIDER-MONTH alongside two other Superior-branded Spider-books, looking like the cheapest cash-in event ever. Well, fortunately for me the fine folks at the Weekly Longbox podcast did a good enough job of selling me on the quality of this comic, and now it’s my turn to pass that advice to you.
BUY.
THIS.
BOOK.
I haven’t enjoyed a book full of unlikeable villains this much since Secret Six, and while that comic was generally, heh, superior, Superior Foes has done a better job of making me like these guys way less and yet still love reading it. And I haven’t enjoyed this level of mundane this much outside of Hawkeye. It’s like Quantum & Woody, but with five Woodys (and one of those Woodys being the flipping Shocker). These first six issues have been handled with such style and grace that I can barely believe it. All that and it has great Nick Spencer cliffhangers just like Morning Glories does, except all stupid and hilarious instead of brain-twisting.
The bottom line: It’s really good and I’m pretty sure if more people don’t jump on it soon it’s going to get cancelled. Do your civic duty. Give the bad guys a try.
