-THE PROBLEM WITH UNWRITTEN FABLES

I love Fables.  I very much enjoy Unwritten.  Why am I disliking this storyline so much?  I think I’ve finally put my finger on it.  It’s because the Unwritten characters are playing a supporting role.  It’s more of a Fables story that guest-stars Tommy Taylor.  This would be fine except it’s taking place so far out of continuity that I can’t care about it as a Fables story.  It’s a dopey What If?/Elseworlds tale, and as such it holds no weight except for Tom’s place in everything.  But even Tom isn’t himself!  He’s the storybook version of himself which, while amusing, isn’t a character I connect with in any way.

I have little doubt that when we’ve reached the end of the storyline we’ll have recieved another piece of the exquisite puzzle that is Unwritten’s mythology and motivations.  I just wish it was more fun to read in the process.
