I’d like to introduce you to the Baxter family. It’s a family of 5. Mike Baxter (played by Tim Allen) leads the family as the man’s man conservative hunter who loves to lay down the law while preaching your traditional conservative values. Baxter is a partner and marketing guru of Outdoor Man and sells camping and hunting equipment to men. Then, meet Vanessa Baxter (played by Nancy Travis) who is the over protective mom. She’s loving and wants to be your friends while also being extremely uncool. Next up is Kristin Baxter (played by Amanda Fuller in seasons 2-6 and by Alexandra Krosney in season 1), she’s your young mother who’s trying to be a thing in the restaurant world. Mandy Baxter (played by Molly Ephraim) is your low key slutty daughter who is also an up and coming fashion designer with a good heart. Last but not least is Mike’s favorite daughter Eve Baxter (played by Kristen Dever). Eve is essentially mini-Mike. She’s quick witted, conservative tomboy.
Now that you met the Baxter’s, you will learn to love them. Here are three reasons why you’ll love this show!
- The wit. This show is pretty basic when it comes to the writing. However, they have a very witty way of incorporating good one liners. Eve plays to this strength. Her character is extremely witty. Her facial expressions make her character. You will enjoy the humor on this show.
- Tim Allen’s past follows him. This show is probably the closest form of a Home Improvement reunion that we will get in the future. A few of Allen’s former co-stars make guest appearances in the new show as completely different people. The writers do make mention of some sort of past connection.
- The women in this show are perfect examples of being independent in your own way. Each of the girls has completely different interests, social ideas, lifestyle choices and career paths. The big thing that ties them together is that they don’t care what the “world” thinks they should be doing and they fight for their spot in their field. While Mandy might do some things that are frowned upon, we learn to love her for the good things she does and not hold people to their “mistakes” of youth.
While this show constantly makes fun of liberal politicians, the show is well written and easy to get into. If you like Tim Allen, you will love this show. Some guest stars include Jay Leno, Reba, and Nick Jonas. We recommend Netflixing This ASAP.
