McPlant: McDonald’s plans to test plant-based burger

McDonald’s announced plans to test a plant-based burger.

The New York Post reports that the burger chain will test the plant-based burger in Irving, Texas; Carrollton, Texas; Cedar Falls, Iowa; Jennings, Louisiana; Lake Charles, Louisiana; El Segundo, California; and Manhattan Beach, California.

This will be McDonald’s first time offering a meat-alternative for their burgers. According to McDonald’s, the company hope the test will help them “understand how offering a burger with a plant-based patty impacts the kitchens in our restaurants.”

McDonald’s has been a slow adapter to plant-based burgers. Burger King has offered an Impossible Whopper for the better part of 3 years now and is now testing plant-based chicken nuggets. McDonald’s is teaming with Beyond Meats to test the plant-based burger.
