Here we are, a new year has begun and the holidays are behind us. We’ve celebrated, exchanged gifts, taken down our trees, boxed away our holiday decor, and returned or exchanged gifts that weren’t quite right. Now, I’m sure (I hope) you said thank you to those that were thoughtful enough to give you a gift, host you for a holiday, or any other kind gestures you may have received. Perhaps that ‘thank you’ was said in person, in a text, or maybe even by email. All of those methods are perfectly acceptable, but if you want to go the extra mile, send a thank you card! Yes, an actual card, hand-written by you, sent to your thoughtful friends and family members! Thank you cards have unfortunately taken a backseat to the now-so-easily-accessible text or email, but they have not been forgotten and are greatly appreciated!
I used to be the type that thought a thank you text would suffice, until I received a thank you note from my aunt one year after Christmas. It was simple but thoughtful and sweet, and made me smile. She just wanted me to know that she had enjoyed my company, appreciated my gift and thanked me for thinking of her. I made a mental note of how nice it felt to receive that card and told myself that I too, would be picking up the habit of sending thank you cards.
Sending a thank you card is a small gesture but it goes a long way. In this day and age, life is so fast paced and everyone is always trying to get multiple tasks done at once. So it means even more when someone knows how busy you are, and you still took the time to hand write a note to them, talk about feeling appreciated!

It doesn’t always have to be a ‘thank you’ either, it can just be a ‘hello’ or an ‘I’m thinking of you’. I get those sometimes from friend’s and it absolutely makes my day! It’s also a nice excuse to go out and buy some pretty stationary! So make someone’s day, let them know they are appreciated and give them a reason to smile when they open their mail box!
In the words of the late great Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Five minutes, that’s all it takes to write out a card, and you can make someone you care about feel loved and appreciated!
