How is it: Death Stranding

Hideo Kojima’s first outing without the rest of Konami was bound to be an amazing adventure. With this game I can say so far that is correct I love this game but the keyword here is BUT the game is not what I expected at all. This game boils down to you the player playing Sam Porter Bridges played by Norman Reedus trying to reconnect all of America in the post-apocalyptic world.

The world itself is so full of mystery and has all of the feelings of a Kojima type of storytelling in the first hour in and Half I probably only play about 20-30 minutes of the game while I was watching cut scene to cut scene. Which all of these cut scenes are wonderfully well done and fun to watch. The game has a hard-Sci-Fi setting that I’m still trying to figure out myself. My best advice when approaching the story is to hold on to the fact that you are trying to reconnect all of America.

This game in some places feels like Kingdom Hearts style of insanely confusing storytelling. In no way am I saying this is bad just prepare yourself to be confused 90% of the time. That being said when I got to the gameplay I found it to be fun and refreshing while some may see it as a glorified walking sim I truly think this is not only one of the games strongest points but can be quite fun especially when BT a weird time ghost ( again I’m not too sure on the story yet ) pop in your route to the next City.

These sections feel intense and make you really have to plan your route ahead so you don’t get killed. Which planning your route is the way of the game every delivery you make you’re the one who plans the route and picks the best gear for the delivery. The game at times feels like an action-adventure game especially when you are going stealth around all kinds of enemies and taking them down one by one. Again, I have to make this clear this game is more about the journey than the destination and is one of those games that will not be for everyone and is very artsy.

Kinda funny games reviewed this game as well and talked about the first 3 chapters that make it or break it for all players. Which you’ll either be in love with the story and characters or hate the games by chapter 3. I happen to agree the first 3 chapters feel like they are setting you up for this 40 plus hour game and you are really getting your grip on all the mechanics and story. So, if you make it past chapter 3 then you’re most likely in it for the long haul.

Death Stranding is a very polarizing game that I think is worth a try if you love artistic story-driven games over a lot of combat. The game came out on November 8th and so far, has been reviewed all over the place. If you want to check this game out then grab your PS4 get ready to make some deliveries gamers.
