Former President Donald J. Trump must testify in the New York Attorney General (Letitia James) investigation into the Trump Organization.
Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. to testify under oath. Letitia James subpoenaed the Trumps back in December. The Trump Family has 21 days to be deposed.
Trump is expected to appeal the order. The Hollywood Reports says that the ruling puts Trump in an awkward position to either testify or invoke his Fifth Amendment right to not incriminate himself.
Attorney General James says that her investigation into the Trump’s company over “fraudulent or misleading” valuations of assets like golf courses and skyscrapers to get loans and tax benefits.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that if Trump were to testify in a civil suit, his testimony could be used against him in a criminal investigation.
