On January 29, Beyond Meat and KFC announced that they have created a fried chicken alternative for the chicken chain. The two companies are currently testing the product in Nashville and Charlotte.
The CEO of Ethan Brown stated that the fried chicken was more difficult than the beef alternative.
“One of the key things with poultry is you have to get the muscle structure right,” Brown said. “With something that’s ground, you don’t have to have that same muscle structure, but with chicken, the consumer wants that muscle structure.” (Business Insider).
According to Business Insider, Beyond Meat and KFC tested a plant based Chicken Nugget that sold out in 5 hours. Since then, the two parties have decided create the full fried chicken alternative.
