Since CM Punk walked out of the WWE on that fateful Monday Night in January 2014, wrestling fans have been foaming at the mouth for the possible return of the Best In The World. In fact, when Cody Rhodes announced that he and the Young Bucks would be doing an event in 2018, CM Punk’s name was at the top of the list of people who should be at that show. I have four reasons why Punk should wrestle for AEW. For MultiMediaMouth.com, my name is Ruben Jay. In 2011, CM Punk became the sole reason why I tuned into WWE every week. He was on track to become the top guy in WWE, and if done right, he could have been the new Stone Cold Steve Austin. Unfortunately for us, WWE dropped the ball. Reason number four that Punk should be in AEW is simple: Punk can finally put his name value to work.
If CM punk were to join AEW and on the debut of AEW on TNT, wrestling fans were to tune into the show in the million plus number, Punk would be able to say that he was the draw. In a sense, he would be responsible for what Chris Jericho’s character claims to have done so far. Punk gone on to say that he felt like he should have been a major player in WWE — and by many accounts he was, but he was never the “main event player”.
In WWE, Punk was always in the shadows of John Cena. In a sense, Punk was to Cena as Triple H was to Rock and Austin. In AEW, there would be no John Cena and Punk would be able to be the man.
Reason number three, creative freedom. In Jon Moxley’s interview with Wade Keller of PWTorch, Moxley mentioned that in AEW, the creative process was much quicker and free-flowing for the wrestlers and producers. CM Punk was extremely unhappy with the creative process in WWE. AEW allowing the wrestlers and producers to be creative on the whim, Punk would be able to be the edgy character that he wanted to be.
Punk seems to have a great mind for the business so it would make sense that he would be able to come up with ideas and execute them on the shows.

Reason number two, legitimizing AEW. Currently, AEW has a small top tier of stars made up of Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley and Cody Rhodes with Hangman Adam Page in the process of being made. Bringing CM Punk into the mix would really legitimize AEW. The fact that AEWs main-event singles roster is really just four names, adding Punk to the roster would make the top tier just that much more special. Having a former Ring of Honor, ECW, and WWE World Champion on your roster is a huge get. Punk in a legit main eventer. AEW needs a few more of those.
And the number one reason why CM Punk should wrestle for AEW: Creating the next stage of stars. Punk can come into AEW, work the TVs and big events and help make new stars. Imagine Adam Page being able to beat CM PUNK clean. Punk coming into the fold, getting built up, and losing to someone like Page would legitimize Page. Whether Page becomes the first ever AEW world champion or not would not matter. Beating someone like CM Punk can be a crowning moment for Page.
CM Punk is the biggest name on the free agency. If I were in charge of AEW’s talent relations department, I would make a big play for Punk.
