NWA posted this on their Youtube Channel:
This past Sunday at Championship Wrestling From Hollywood Nick Aldis battled Tim Storm the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. This is the live stream that was broadcast on http://www.facebookc.om/NWA. A full and complete version of the match will air in the coming weeks on Championship Wrestling From Hollywood. We thank David Marquez and everyone at Championship Wrestling From Hollywood for their support and professional production of this NWA Worlds Title Match. This is the first NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title match promoted by William Corgan. The Ten Pounds of Gold series highlighted both men’s desire to hold the famous NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title to join the legacy of men like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race, Dory Funk Jr. Terry Funk, Lou Thesz, AJ Styles, Adam Pearce, Colt Cabana, Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, Ricky Steamboat and more. This is the highest profile matching the career of the fifty-three year old school teacher’s career. Nick Aldis walked into Los Angeles attempting to knock Tim Storm off his mountaintop.
Ring of Honor Chief Operating Officer, Joe Koff, announced in an interview that ROH is going to be launching an over-the-top streaming service in the first quarter of 2018.
“We have an app coming out in the first quarter,” said Kofi. “It really became developmentally the right time to do it. We saw an opportunity. We had a long discussion about it. We looked at the business model and how it impacts our business. We just felt that this was the time to create our own Ring of Honor stream.”
He said there will be an enhanced “Honor Club,” which was tested during the Global Wars Tour where they streamed house shows to ringside members. “You’re going to see a lot more content available, not only to everybody, but certainly in that Honor Club,” he said. “[When we tested] streaming for two shows, our response was terrific from a quality standpoint and from an accessibility standpoint.”
Koff also said in that same interview that they plan on moving away from the Pay-Per-View model.
Commentary: In the long run, this is a great idea to move away from the PPV model. It would create higher revenue for the company and give them the freedom to monetize their non-televised shows much more. ROH has a pretty hardcore following, so I do see this becoming a big deal within their own world. It also makes more sense now as to why they didn’t even entertain the FloSlam offer that was made a year or so ago.
