-WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT SECRET AVENGERS THAT I HAVEN’T ALREADY SAID?

Secret Avengers #20 is a tiny little masterpiece.  I don’t know that I’ve ever read a time travel story, and certainly not one told in twenty pages, that has so effectively showcased the emotional weight of jumping through time.  In order to change the timestream without anyone knowing that she’s done it, she ends up living another side life filled with several months worth of key moments.  Even though she was gone for just a moment, she lived and loved and felt pangs of great sadness.  The closest analog to how this book made me felt is the movie Groundhog Day.  It’s a brilliant standout issue in a run of great stories.  In a kinder and more just world, Warren Ellis would write this book forever.
