-HOLY CRAP ANIMAL MAN

I loved Casanova this week.  It was silly.  It was sublime.  It was everything that Casanova always is.  But I gave the book of the week nod to Animal Man because it blew my goddamn socks off.  I hoped for good things, but what I got was an unexpected dose of classic Vertigo flavor, disconcerting and beautiful all at once.  The art is amazing and the dialogue is heartbreaking.  If this is the best thing to come out of the New 52 initiative, it’s been a rousing success.
